US based saxophonist and producer Alex Nekrasov was introduced to music at the age of 4 by his mother, Irina Nekrasova, a professional classical pianist, and consequently studied classical and jazz saxophone for 11 years at two specialized music schools in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. At the age of 13 Alex won the first alto sax position in the original line up of the now famous Children’s Big Band of the Rostov Jazz School; this lead to numerous tours of Germany and the UK where Alex was one of the youngest members to perform at the Glasgow Jazz Festival in 1999 and 2000. A landmark event while studying in Russia was winning the grand prize in the Competition of Young Jazz Performers, deemed the most prestigious award for any instrumentalist under the age of 30.
Seeking to further his studies and career, Alex moved to the United States and was accepted immediately at the University of Denver on full scholarship. While still at school he was approached by GRP recording artist Nelson Rangell to produce Rangell’s next three albums; this gave Alex the opportunity to work with such prominent artists as The Yellowjackets, Earl Klugh, Brian Bromberg, Chuck Loeb, Don Grusin, and many others. The alliance has yielded 6 of Rangell’s 18 studio albums.
In 2007 Alex was asked to write several orchestral scores for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra; along with scores by Vince Mendoza and Billy Childs, they were premiered that summer by the CSO to great success.
In 2009 Alex and pianist Vlad Girshevich, co-created Truetet – a trio which sounds like no other; in addition to playing alto sax, Alex also masterfully holds down the bass role on the EWI (Electric Wind Instrument) while the pianist is soloing. This innovative combination continues to amaze audiences worldwide.
Alex’s recording skills were greatly influenced by collaborations with two masters of sound engineering – Bill Douglass (R. Kelly, Smashing Pumpkins, Celine Dion) and Justin Peacock (Sarah McLachlan, John Mayer, Maroon 5, Pat Metheny).
Alex has worked with top level American and European musicians, such as Tim LeFebvre (David Bowie, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Till Brönner), Tony Lindsay (6 Grammy Awards for soloist work with Carlos Santana), Brian Monroney (Gloria Estefan, Michael Bolton, Natalie Cole), Peter Olstad (Tom Jones, Luis Miguel). Among his recent production credits are recordings featuring multiple Grammy-winning artists Eddie Gomez (Bill Evans, Chick Corea), legendary pianist Bob James, and virtuoso trumpet player Randy Brecker.
Currently Alex is developing leading edge professional audio technologies at Innersonix, a company he co-founded in 2009, and continuing to collaborate with world-class musicians both in the studio and on stage.
